“Bambùcchio”

breaking rules in order to grown-up

Bambùcchio has been designed and produced for an exhibition about Pinocchio‭. ‬The museum ADI asked at 31‭ ‬designers to design our own version of Pinocchio giving us only two requirements‭: ‬that it has to be 40‭ ‬cm tall and it need to be made‭ ‬in wood‭.‬

But Pinocchio does not respect the rules‭, ‬and also in this case‭, ‬he violates the curatorial‭ ‬restrictions imposed on him‭. Bambùcchio constantly changes shape‭, ‬becoming disproportionately tall‮—‬beyond the 40‭ ‬cm‭ ‬regulation‮—‬and is made of bamboo‭, ‬classified as woody grass‭. ‬The formal inspiration is the‭ ‬meter‭, ‬a symbol of growth but also a tool for standardised measurement‭, ‬representing‭ ‬the character's internal conflict‭: ‬who wishes to rebel but is forced to adapt to the norm‭.‬

Made in bambù and pine in the workshop of Bricheco‭. ‬
